Love Artisan, is an artisan furniture-making company that harnesses the potential of the Kenyan informal sector workforce to create quality, contemporary, sustainable furniture with an African identity. Israel Burgei, during his residence at Love Artisan, has created the ground-breaking furniture design called the 'Gravity 360 sofa'. It employs hydraulic technology to lower each individual seat unit independently. It's design inherently works for Africa and Africans - at the core of it's concept is the ability to share space (and stories) communally; an integral part of African culture and society. The design, whilst not created specifically for a Post-Covid purpose, also works in this environment as the users can elect to seat themselves on the sofa, at a distance at which they feel comfortable.
The designer, Israel Burgei, is a 24-year-old graduate of Strathmore University (B.Comm Finance), who has recently discovered a passion for product design. He enjoys taking risks and his determined nature propels him to persist with a project until ultimate failure or success. Only then will his design compulsion be satisfied.

Israel joined Love Artisan as an intern for 3 months (Sep – Dec 2020) to gain first-hand experience in Kenya's local manufacturing sector and to receive guidance and know-how in bringing his concept to reality.
